World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Ousmane Dione has confirmed the bank’s readiness to support the Syrian people in the areas of energy and technology.
In a post on X platform today, Dione said: We held meaningful meetings during the World Bank Spring Meetings with Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yaser Barnieh and the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria Abdul Qader Hasri in their first participation in such meetings in more than a decade.
He clarified that priority areas for recovery and reform in Syria were discussed.
Finance Minister Mohammad Yaser Barnieh had clarified in a statement to SANA a few days ago that the goal of Syria’s participation in the meetings with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank is to revitalize cooperation with international financial institutions, open channels for technical support, and build capacity.
