Al-Sudani: Iraq supports the sovereignty and unity of Syria

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s support for the Syrian people in all their diversity. According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Prime Minister’s media office said  in a press release that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani received on Wednesday the head of the Shiite community in Syria, Sayyed Abdullah Nizam. ”

“During the meeting, the latest developments in Syria were reviewed.” the press release added. The statement pointed out that “al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s firm position in standing by the Syrian people of all sects and components, and in supporting Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity.”

The meeting also emphasized the importance of unifying the discourse in support of coexistence and civil peace, through the role of religious leaders in promoting social cohesion.

The two sides also stressed the necessity of rejecting extremism, reinforcing the concept of citizenship to achieve social justice, as well as strengthening national unity among the Syrian people in a way that enhances security and stability in the region.
