Syrian-Swedish talks to advance cooperation in the field of agricultural development

Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr discussed with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Syria, Jessica Svardström prospects of cooperation and the development of relations in the field of agriculture.

The Minister clarified that the agricultural sector has suffered significant damage as a result of the events that have taken place in Syria, including damage to irrigation canals, infrastructure, and the services the Ministry provided to farmers.

He noted the agricultural sector’s need to support rural development by establishing small income-generating projects and securing fodder for livestock, especially after this year’s drought and lack of rainfall.

Badr highlighted the importance of training technicians and scientific cadres at the General Authority for Agricultural Research and Development, providing it with modern laboratories, reforesting the agricultural lands damaged by fires, and creating appropriate conditions for the return of displaced persons to their areas.

For her part, Svardström emphasized that the Swedish government is interested in developing Syrian agriculture and promoting it to improve farmers’ incomes and provide appropriate conditions for them.
