Jaafari: UNSC should Assume Responsibilities in Condemning, Holding accountable states Sponsoring Terrorism in Syria
New York, (ST)_ Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in condemnation and accountability of states supporting terrorism Syria undergoes for more than three years, particularly Israel and compel these states to desist from destructive practices and respect their obligations under international law and the UN Charter.
Jaafari emphasized in a statement before the meeting of the UN Security Council yesterday about ( briefings of heads of the UNSC sub-committees on combating terrorism ) : ” the priority is to oblige all member states to refrain from providing any form of support and funding for terrorism, in accordance with resolution 1373 of 2001.”
Jaafari indicated that, Syria and other UNSC Member States, such as Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Russia, China, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan and others have witnessed since six months, following the last briefing to the heads of the 3 sub-committees about acts of terrorism and brutality of varied forms and labels of their executors but were common in nature and ugly approach based on the brutal violence and blind extremism.
“The persistence of the terrorist groups in recently manifested in cutting drinking water and sanitation off 3 million residents of the city of Aleppo, targeting of schools and universities by mortar and artillery shelling and bombarding one election center in the city of Daraa, are all but a direct result of the support these groups receive from the governments o the UNSC member states while turning a blind eye on their crimes, rather provide them with various types of support to serve their own interests at the expense of innocent blood of the Syrian people. ” Jafaari stressed.
Jaafari explained that the United Nations represents the main international forum and the venue to coordinate and strengthen international efforts to eliminate the threat posed by terrorism to international peace and security and the safety and stability of nations and peoples well-being, stressing that success in this endeavor requires, first and foremost, stay away from anything that might undermine the role and credibility of the United Nations in this regard, including politicizing the issue of combating terrorism and trying to find excuses for the perpetrators of terrorist acts and the classification of terrorism by good and evil terrorism.
