CBF fires coach Dorival Júnior

The Brazilian football confederation (CBF) confirmed on Friday that they have decided to relieve Dorival Junior of his duties as Brazil manager.

The CBF made the decision following Brazil’s heavy 4-1 defeat against arch-rivals Argentina in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying clash in Buenos Aires.

Dorival Junior, who was appointed in January 2024, experienced an underwhelming record during his time in charge, winning seven, drawing six and losing three of his 16 matches.

Brazil will hope a new manager can oversee an upturn in fortunes and help them achieve their dream of winning a sixth World Cup in 2026.
