Worshippers in Damascus celebrate Laylat al-Qadr

Crowds of worshippers in Damascus celebrated the night of the 27th of Ramadan (Laylat al-Qdr) at the Grand Umayyad Mosque and the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, performing Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers in a spiritual atmosphere.

The acting head of the “Al-Sada al-Ashraf” in Damascus, Dr. Bassam Abdul Karim Al-Hamzawi, confirmed in a statement to SANA that Muslims continue to commemorate the night of the 27th of Ramadan with prayer, remembrance, and supplication, because it is one of the odd-numbered nights of the last ten days of Ramadan, and that the Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power) could be the greatest night in Islam.

For his part, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Ali Al-Mulla pointed out the great meanings of this night, especially that God Almighty has distinguished Laylat al-Qadr with great virtues because it is the night in which the Holy Quran was revealed, and God made it better than a thousand months, as the gates of Paradise are opened at this nighit, sins are forgiven, and supplications are accepted.

He emphasized that it is an opportunity for Muslims to draw closer to God Almighty, expiate sins, and be freed from Hellfire.

A number of worshippers told SANA that they considered this night to be different this year from previous years because it is the first after the liberation and the fall of the former regime, praying to God Almighty to grant security and peace to Syria and its people.
