Turkish Ambassador to the U.S. underscores the need to lift sanctions imposed on Syria

WASHINGTON, Mar.22, (ST)-Yesterday, Turkish Ambassador to the United States Sedat Onal underscored the need to lift sanctions imposed on Syria so that the new government can provide public services and security to its people.

Anadolu Agency quoted Onal as saying during a conference on US-Turkish relations, organized by the Atlantic Council in Washington: “Sanctions have to be lifted. Otherwise the new government cannot deliver public services and security to its people, and the Syrian people would have been punished for the crimes committed by the Assad regime,” Onal said.”

He called on the international community to help the Syrian people establish a functional and inclusive political system.

Onal emphasized the importance of diplomacy, regional stability, and economic cooperation to strengthen the situation in the region and achieve security and peace.
