Jordan Calls for Lifting Sanctions on Syria

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasized the necessity of standing by the Syrian people in rebuilding their country on the foundations that ensure its unity, security, and sovereignty, while preserving the rights of all its components after decades of suffering.

The “Al-Mamlaka” TV reported that during a dialogue with the Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Parliament’s Committee on Relations with Countries of the East , as well as several members of the International Trade Committee and rapporteurs of the comprehensive financial assistance package for Jordan in the European Parliament in Brussels, Safadi called for lifting sanctions on Syria.

He pointed to the importance of the European role in supporting a new Syria, praising the European Union for holding the Brussels Conference to Support Syria, which he described as an important practical step in this direction.

Safadi stated that the Syrian people are capable of rebuilding Syria, and that international support is essential during the transitional phase.

He also warned of the consequences of Israel’s occupation of Syrian territory and stressed the need for Israel to withdraw and respect the 1974 disengagement agreement, which the Syrian government has confirmed its commitment to.

He said that Israel is pushing for further conflict by not respecting the agreement and occupying Syrian land.
