On the sidelines of the Brussels Donors’ Conference on Syria, which aims to mobilize international support to address the country’s humanitarian and development challenges, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shiibani held several bilateral meetings with international officials and representatives of international organizations to emphasize the importance of strengthening joint cooperation and supporting reconstruction efforts.
Al-Shibani met with Andreas Kravik, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway. The two sides discussed ways to develop bilateral relations between the two countries and mechanisms for enhancing Norwegian support in the humanitarian field, especially in the light of the current situation in Syria.
Minister Al-Shibani also met with Geir Pedersen, the UN Special Envoy for Syria. The meeting addressed developments in the Syrian political situation and the role of the United Nations in supporting comprehensive solutions that preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and meet the aspirations of the people.
Among the notable meetings also was Al-Shaibani’s meeting with Mr. Rahim Aga Khan, Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), which focused on discussing the network’s development projects in Syria, particularly in the areas of education and infrastructure, and its role in empowering local communities.
The day also witnessed a meeting with Ms. Carla Quintana, President of the Independent Foundation for Missing Persons in Syria. The importance of cooperation was emphasized to shed light on the issue of missing persons and prisoners and to find effective international mechanisms to address these complicated humanitarian issues.
