Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources welcomes Qatar’s humanitarian initiative to support Syria’s energy sector
The Minister of oil and Mineral Resources, Mr. Ghiyath Diab, welcomed the humanitarian initiative of the state of Qatar to support the energy sector in Syria, which came under the generous directives of the Emir of the brotherly state of Qatar.
Diab said in a statement to SANA: “the initiative of the state of Qatar provides for the provision of natural gas supplies to Syria through Jordanian territory, which will contribute to the generation of electric power at an initial rate of up to 400 megawatts and gradually increase it to secure two to four additional hours of operation. The initiative reflects the strong commitment of the brotherly state of Qatar to support the Syrian people during this important stage.”
The minister went on to say: “This initiative by the Qatar Development Fund (QDF) represents important support for addressing the challenges of Syria’s energy sector and enhances our ability to achieve stability and economic growth especially that the electricity sector in Syria is facing an acute shortage of production due to gas and fuel shortages, which negatively affects the lives of citizens and hinders the government’s efforts to improve energy infrastructure and create an encouraging investment environment.”
Diab thanked the leadership and people of the brotherly state of Qatar for this generous initiative, and hoped that the efforts of support and strengthening of joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields will continue.
