Presidential Elections Preliminary Results Show Sisi Beating Sabbahi

Preliminary results of the vote of Egyptian expatriates in the 2014 presidential elections showed that former Defense Minister and presidential hopeful Abdel Fattah al-Sisi beat leftist presidential hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi in 13 countries.

The 13 countries are Zambia, Oman, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Palestine, Belgium, Mauritania, Austria and New York and Washington DC in the US.

According to preliminary results, Sisi received about 162,000 votes, while Hamdeen received 10,875 votes.

Egypt’s ambassador to Denmark, Salwa Mofeed, said on Monday night that Sisi got the majority of votes of Egyptians living in Denmark after receiving 365 votes, while Sabbahi received 43 votes.

“The turnout in these elections was large compared to the turnout in previous elections,” Mofeed added.

Sisi received the larger number of votes in the Greek capital Athens.

He received 2316 votes while Sabbahi received 64 votes. There were 22 invalid votes, according to preliminary results.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Athens, Ahmed Bedaiwy, said that voter turnout was three times as much as the vote on the latest constitution.

“The electoral process proceeded calmly without any problems or complications and with the utmost transparency,” Bedaiwy added. “Journalists and representatives of Sisi and Hamdeen attended the counting process.”

The presidential elections for Egyptian expatriates started last Thursday in 124 countries.

The Presidential Elections Commission said that the number of Egyptian expatriates who cast their vote so far was over 300,000.

There are an estimated 8 million Egyptian expatriates around the world.
