“Iftar Saem” Initiative to distribute 200 Iftar meals in Damascus countryside

Community initiatives in the holy month of Ramadan reflect the spirit of solidarity and cooperation that characterizes Syrian society to help the poor and needy, in the light of the difficult economic conditions caused by the former regime.

One of the initiatives that embodied this idea is the “Iftar Saem” (giving food to a fasting person) initiative launched by “Al- Sawaed” Volunteer Team for the third year. The initiative aims at distributing 200 Iftar meals daily in a number of neighborhoods in the Damascus countryside, according to Yasser Warda, the team’s media supervisor.

Warda clarified in a statement that the initiative targets needy families and workers whose work conditions require them to be present during and after Iftar, and contributes to strengthening social cohesion, bonds of love, and a sense of community responsibility as a number of donors support the initiative.

In turn, Nada Al-Khatib, the team’s secretary, said that the team’s work also includes a number of fields: providing free courses for students at various educational levels, and carrying out initiatives to clean roads and public parks.

She noted that preparations are underway to launch medical initiatives to help patients.

Volunteers Ismail Kafarjoumi and Lujain Hariri pointed out that volunteer work is a unique experience to perform one’s duty towards society and people in need, calling for supporting more initiatives for their role in contributing to rebuilding the new Syria.
