Health Minster and EU Charge d’affairs in Syria discuss cooperation to build sound health sector

The Acting Minister of Health Maher Al-Sharaa discussed with the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Mission to Syria Michael Ohnmacht means to enhance cooperation in the health field. During a meeting held today, Al-Sharaa pointed to the great role played by the European Union in supporting the health sector in northwestern Syria. He stressed the need to develop a strategy to build the health sector in Syria in a sound manner.

Al-Shara reviewed the aspects of cooperation between the Ministry and the EU in the areas of enhancing primary health care, public health services and rehabilitating health facilities. He called for adopting the principle of partnership to rehabilitate the dilapidated health sector in all specialties.

In his turn, Ohnmacht stressed the importance of joint cooperation to improve communication and coordination between the health sector and the European Union Mission in Syria regarding strengthening Syria’s health systems and exchanging experiences.

He stressed the Union’s willingness to continue its efforts to support the Syrian people in various fields. Ohnmacht listened to the challenges facing the health sector, proposing some solutions that contribute to improving the level of medical services provided in all health facilities in Syria.
