Lavrov: Sanctions imposed on Syria harm the Syrian people

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that he stressed to the United Nations the necessity of lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria because they harm the Syrian people.

He added “we know that the current Syrian administration is ready to cooperate and normalize the situation in the country in a balanced manner.”

He pointed out that he discussed with the Emir of Qatar issues of the Middle East, especially the recent developments in Syria.

He added “we are considering the possibility of organizing a meeting at the highest levels between Syria and Russia.

He said that Syria does not want its territory to be used to resolve external crises, pointing out that Western sanctions on Syria were on the Assad regime, and now with the fall of this regime, the sanctions must be lifted.

He pointed out “we heard from the Qataris that the new Syrian administration is focusing on development and economy.”

“Some Syrian components show a desire for separatism in Syria, such as the “Kurds,” which is unacceotable.

“We also hear that some Syrian components want their own administrative region, and this is a dangerous indicator,” he clarified.
