The President of the Turkish University of Basaksehir, Dr. Emad al-Din al-Rasheed, confirmed that Syria is an integral part of a nation with its functional characteristics, and its human component is regarded as the cognitive and civilizational treasure that must be put in its proper place.
In a lecture delivered today at Latakia University under the title “Syrian Identity in a Multiple Society”, Dr. Al-Rasheed explained that the human element in Syria is created by this cognitive and civilized treasure, so there is an urgent need for solidarity among all for Syria.
Dr. Al-Rasheed explained that identity has a special and general meaning, which is a set of beliefs, traditions, customs, values, norms and principles. “It has an ideological and social dimension. This identity is not a creation of governments, but a historical industry made by parents and grandparents and is entrenched in societies and nations.” He said.
In his lecture, Dr. Al-Rasheed focused on the cognitive and existential aspect of identity, which is formed by an important idea, which is the ruling and controlling philosophy, which is the accumulation of generations of knowledge, concepts and approaches and is inspired by knowledge.
He pointed out that the historical Syrian identity is deep-rooted, and that Arabic is one of its most important components. It has a civilized dimension, coupled with religious tolerance and popular culture, which constituted an important pillar of Syrian identity because it reflects the diversity of society in religions and ethnicities, stressing the need for a constitution expressing the Syrian people in all its components.
