HOMS, Feb.22, (ST)- Over 5000 Syrian youths from inside Syria and abroad have taken part in the “Hackathon Syria” activity, which was launched today at the University of Homs.
The activity is hosted by the Information and Communications Technology Incubator of the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics, and organized by the “Startup Syria” Foundation.
The 7-day-activity, in which more than 23 leading entities in innovation, influence and media are participating besides strategic and community partners, aims to develop innovative technical solutions to problems and challenges in Syrian society.
The Director of the Information and Communication Technology Incubator in Homs, Eng. Hala Jahjah, declared that the incubator’s participation comes as a strategic partner by providing logistical support and keeping up with the events, and being a center for providing technical and advisory support to participants, as the events continue until the 28th of this month.
At the end of the activity, the proposed projects are judged in six sectors that have been approved in health, education, economy, agriculture, peace and social cohesion.
Eng. Jahjah also pointed out that “Hackathon Syria” attract young entrepreneurs to form work teams consisting of 5 to 8 people in each team from Syria and abroad who cooperate to complete a pioneering technical project that contains solutions to the problems and obstacles that Syria or the world suffers from in various sectors.
“ Over 200 young participants from Homs have been registered, about 60 of whom came the incubator headquarters today to follow the events,” she added.
For his part, the representative of the institution which is organizing the “Hackathon Syria” event, Moataz Bellah Hakimi, said that the idea of the “Hackathon” aims to bring together young Syrians who are interested in technology and technology and those with creative ideas to find innovative solutions and achieve early recovery from the obstacles facing Syria.
Hackathon is stemmed from the word “Marathon,” and is an event where technology enthusiasts and creative thinkers gather for several days, working in groups to improve something or resolve a problem.
