UNDP Calls for Long-term Investment to Support Recovery in Syria

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) stressed that accelerating economic recovery in Syria is crucial to prevent the deterioration of the country and restore stability in it. “Along with immediate humanitarian assistance, Syria’s recovery requires a long-term investment in development in order to achieve economic and social stability for its people,” UN News quoted UN program director Achim Steiner as saying in a press release.

Steiner went on to say, “Restoring productivity to provide jobs and alleviate poverty, revitalizing agriculture to achieve food security, and rebuilding the infrastructure for basic services such as Healthcare, Education, and Energy in Syria are key factors for achieving a sustainable future, prosperity, and peace.” “Moving forward requires a comprehensive strategy that addresses governance and economic stability, the revitalization of sectors, the reconstruction of infrastructure and the strengthening of social services,” Steiner said.
