Minister of Economy discusses with a delegation from the European Commission the complete lifting of sanctions

Minister of Economy in the caretaker government Basel Abdul Aziz Abdul Hanan discussed with a delegation from the European Commission the importance of continuing the complete lifting of sanctions on Syria, which would reflect positively on the country’s economy and living conditions of its people.

The meeting addressed the frozen fund held in European countries and the necessity of recovering them as they rightfully belong to the Syrian people especially those related to the figures of the fallen regime.

Minister ‏Abdul Hanan clarified that the institutions will be structured to align with free market system, laws and regulation that have been hindered economic process would be amended. He emphasized the need for short-term emergency plans until the Syrian economy recovers, noting that the state will not intervene in the free market and its role will be supervisory and regulatory.

He emphasized commitment to support the local industry to enable it to export. He considered that one year is sufficient to achieve a change in the Syrian economy.
The minister highlighted the importance of developmental training programs for government personnel across various fields, especially after a significant portion of them migrated abroad due to corruption and the security grip of the Assad regime.

He noted that more than 100 investors returned to Syria last month to participate in the reconstruction process despite existing obstacles such as energy issues and unresolved sanctions.
