UN plan to raise $370 million to support the return of Syrian refugees from some countries

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced that it is urgently seeking to raise $370.9 million to facilitate the voluntary return of Syrian refugees from Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and Turkey to Syria during 2025.

The commission indicated that the plan includes supporting the return of up to 1.5 million Syrians and providing basic support to returnees upon their arrival in Syria, according to the Jordanian “Al-Mamlaka” channel website.

The commission indicated that the financial requirements also include assistance for internally displaced Syrians, as this step aims to provide the necessary operational framework to support Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons who have expressed their desire to return, based on a survey of refugee perceptions and intentions conducted by the commission last January.

The UNHCR considered that these resources will enable it and its partners to provide basic preparations for the return and transportation, in addition to providing protection and assistance for “reintegration” in Syria.

It added that while these resources are allocated to support voluntary return, continued investments in protection and assistance for Syrian refugees in host countries remain essential, as these programs, funded through country operations plans approved by the Executive Committee, ensure stability and protection for those who may not return in 2025.
