Group A3+ of Security Council urges international community to support political transition in Syria
The Group A3+ of the Security Council called on the international community to support the political transition process in Syria, urging the Syrians to join efforts as to achieve the peace and stability they aspire to.
The Algerian News Agency quoted the political coordinator of the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations, the group’s spokesman, Tawfik Al-Eid Qoudri, as saying yesterday during a Security Council meeting on Syria: “The group, which includes Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone and Guyana, calls on the international community to support the transition process and support the Syrian people in completing a peaceful, sustainable and comprehensive political process led by the Syrians.”
Qoudri stressed that the reconstruction of Syria must be a collective effort emanating from all its people who deserve peace, stability and prosperity, expressing the group’s aspiration for the international donors to fulfill their financial commitments to support humanitarian aid provided to the Syrian people.
The group also called for lifting the financial sanctions imposed for years on Syria, calling on regional and international actors to help Syria achieve economic recovery.
The group also affirmed its categorical rejection of the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.
