Ministry of Health, Representatives of International Organization discuss unifying efforts to invest available resources in Syria

The meeting held by the ministry of Health with representatives of international organizations, UN agencies and active NGOs working in the nutrition sector focused on the need to unify efforts and invest available resources in Syria.

Participants in the meeting presented reports on the humanitarian need related to the nutrition sector for the current year, as well as on the intersection between the gap and concentration of population in need of nutritional assistance. The participants also discussed the Ministry of Health’s vision for a coordinated approach in the upcoming period.

Zahir Qarat, Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health, emphasized in a statement to SANA the importance of the meeting to unify the work of all entities providing nutritional services within a national framework for all of Syria. This ensures fair distribution of resources, prevention of malnutrition cases, and raising awareness about the importance of proper nutrition.

Hala Dawood, Director of the Nutrition Program at the Ministry of Health, presented an overview of the nutritional situation in Syria and highlighted the need to focus on child nutrition from pregnancy until the child reaches five years of age to develop their cognitive abilities.

Regarding the program’s plan for 2025, Dawood stated that they are working to expand within Idlib Governorate and Aleppo countryside, securing logistical needs for the nutrition program, activating healthy nutrition programs for individuals, managing nutrition in cases of chronic diseases, and preparing for a nutritional survey of Syrian households.
