As part of the second day of the 4th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2025, held in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, representatives from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority held several important meetings with senior officials from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The Syrian delegation included Samah Araabi, Advisor to the President of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, and Amjad Nakhal, Director of the Office of the President of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority.
During the meetings, the Syrian delegation met with Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, Mohammed Rahma, Director of Air Transport at ICAO, Pascal Luciani, Director of Air Navigation and Safety at ICAO, and Hasid Qabbani, Chief Aviation Security Officer at the organization’s regional office.
During these meetings, an agreement was reached to hold an additional session soon to sign a management services agreement between the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority and ICAO, aimed at enhancing technical cooperation and developing institutional performance.
The issue of frozen funds for Syrian civil aviation abroad was also discussed, focusing on ways to utilize them for infrastructure development, supporting training and qualification programs, and updating technical systems in line with ICAO requirements and standards.
Additionally, plans for an official visit by the ICAO regional office to Syria in the coming days were discussed, with the aim of following up on development projects and enhance cooperation.
These meetings reflect Syria’s commitment to enhancing its presence on the international arena in the field of civil aviation.
