UN: Trump’s plan to take over Gaza Strip is very surprising

Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, expressed his dismay at US President Donald Trump’s “shocking” plan to take control of Gaza Strip.

He told AP on Wednesday: It is very surprising, but we have to see what it means on the ground, adding that it is difficult to comment on such a “sensitive issue.”

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he wanted the United States to take ownership of Gaza Strip and redevelop it, after resettling the Palestinians elsewhere.

Trump indicated that the United States will level the destroyed buildings, and achieve economic development that will provide unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for people in the region.

These statements came after Trump suggested earlier that displaced Palestinians in Gaza be resettled “permanently” outside these war-ravaged territories.
