Qatar and Turkey renew their support for Syria

Qatar and Turkey have renewed their full support for Syria and welcomed the steps aimed at restructuring the state, enhancing national reconciliation and unity, which pave the way for strengthening security and stability, building the state of law, institutions, development, and prosperity.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said during a press conference in Doha today, alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan: “Today, we discussed the developments in Syria and welcomed the steps aimed at restructuring the Syrian state, enhancing consensus and unity among all Syrian parties, which paves the way for peace, security, and stability, and for building a state of law, institutions, development, and prosperity.”

He added, “We emphasized the urgent need to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, as they have negative effects in exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, hindering the provision of basic needs. He added “We agreed on the necessity of supporting Syria at this critical stage, supporting its new leadership in building state institutions, and establishing the foundations of stability, as well as ensuring a safe transition through this crucial phase, especially on the humanitarian and economic level.”

For his part, Fidan pointed out that Turkey and Qatar are working together on issues and crises in other countries, including the Syrian issue, and are making every effort to establish a roadmap to provide full support for Syria.

The Turkish Foreign Minister indicated that his country has contributed to providing economic support to Syria, particularly in energy resources, securing the needs of its people, and focusing on how to create a fast-track mechanism to deliver this support to the brothers who have shown their full support and willingness to work together to achieve this, and to lift the long-standing sanctions imposed on Syria.
