Jordanian Prime Minister: It is necessary to create conditions for voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees

Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan stressed the need to creat suitable conditions for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees, stressing the important role of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in creating the conditions for that return.

The Jordanian News Agency (Petra) quoted Hassan as saying during his meeting today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi: “We stress the importance of partnership between Jordan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in providing basic services to refugees.”

He noted that the international community and donor countries should continue providing necessary support for host countries, and to work to create conditions for a voluntary and safe return of the refugees to their country.

In his turn, Grande expressed the UNHCR’s appreciation for the efforts made by Jordan in hosting Syrian refugees, stressing that the UNHCR is in the process of developing a comprehensive plan related to helping Syrian refugees return to their country and providing assistance to the countries hosting them.
