UN: Humanitarian needs in Syria are enormous

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that humanitarian needs in Syria remain enormous, with $1.2 billion needed to provide essential assistance to 6.7 million people from the most vulnerable groups until March of this year.

During his daily press conference, reported by the UN News website, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric indicated that this assistance includes providing food to 5.4 million people, health care to 3 million people, and clean water and sanitation to 2.5 million people.

It was reported that more than 50,000 children, including children with disabilities, are deprived of education, as their schools are used as collective centers to shelter the displaced.

It is noteworthy that Syria hosts one of the largest groups of displaced populations in the world, with internally displaced persons making up about 40 percent of the total number of targeted people
