Syria, Jordan discuss enhancing the work of the joint free zone

The General Assembly of the Syrian-Jordanian Free Zone Company discussed during its meeting in the Jordanian capital Amman yesterday, the work mechanism of the joint free zone between the two countries, and the necessary arrangements to support and enhance its work.

The Syrian side was represented by the Chairman of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, Qutaiba Badawi, while the Jordanian delegation was headed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Al-Qudah.

The two sides agreed on a mechanism to facilitate the work of the Nassib (Syrian) – Jaber (Jordanian) crossing, in a way that enhances the movement of trade and shipping between the two countries, and attracts investments to the joint free zone.

The two sides also stressed the need to increase the working hours at the border crossing to   24 hours a day, starting from the beginning of next February.

The two sides also discussed the activation of the free trade agreement between the two countries in a way that increases the volume of trade exchange and addresses any difficulties facing the private sector.

In addition, the two sides discussed facilitating the movement of transportation and reducing fees imposed on transit trucks passing through both countries. They noted that work will resume in the joint free zone as of Monday.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports expressed his thanks to the Jordanian side for the flexibility and serious desire to work together and enhance cooperation in all areas presented.
