French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced today that the European Union will lift some sanctions imposed on Syria.
According to the French Press Agency, Barrot stated today on the sidelines of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in the Belgian capital, Brussels: “We will make a decision today regarding the suspension of some sanctions imposed on the energy, transport, and financial sectors”.
For her part, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas confirmed today that she expects the bloc to agree today on starting to ease sanctions imposed on Syria.
Kallas added: “We expect to decide on this matter today, It is a step for step approach.”
Three diplomats mentioned yesterday that the EU may soon suspend sanctions imposed on Syria concerning the energy and transport sectors.
