Turkish Foreign Minister: Stability in Syria is a priority for us

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed today the importance of working to stabilize Syria through his country’s efforts with international partners to achieve this goal.

The Turkish diplomat said in an interview with the Saudi Al-Sharq Channel: We share a 911-kilometer border with Syria, so the stability of this country is important to us, and we will make every effort with our international partners to achieve this goal.

Hakan pointed out the new Syrian administration’s efforts to coordinate with all countries, not just Turkey.

He referred to his country’s efforts to know what can be done to rebuild Syria, through cooperation with the Arab League, the Gulf States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union, the United States and other countries, in addition to regional and international organizations.

Hakan said: We are trying to learn from the past to come up with a policy that prioritizes more stability for Syria, through the combined efforts of countries in the region such as: Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq,

He stressed the importance of the role of these countries in achieving stability in Syria.

The Turkish Foreign Minister also expressed his hope that the European Union would lift some of the sanctions imposed on Syria in the coming days.
