More Calls for Participation in Upcoming Presidential Elections

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrians see that holding and taking part in the upcoming presidential elections in the country is a step forward to restore security and stability to Syria, consolidate the state’s independent decision and embody the aspirations of the Syrians in a better Syria.

In statements on this occasion, vocational unions have stressed that achieving the presidential elections on its constitutionally fixed time is a new achievement that proves the sovereignty of the Syrian decision and the strong determination of the Syrian people to perpetuate democracy in their country.

Participation in these elections guarantees Syria’s unity, stability and independent decision and embodies citizens’ hopes for reconstructing what the foreign-backed Wahhabi terrorism have damaged. The statements said, adding that it also consolidates the steadfastness of the Syrian army, people and leadership in the confrontation of the war waged on the country.

The coming Syrian constitutional obligation enjoys special importance as it comes amid a global war waged by regional and international colonialist and hegemony powers against Syria targeting its national role, resistance and principled stances, according to the statements

The unions urged all the Syrians to elect the president who is adherent to national principles and who can lead the country towards stability and security and preserve its sovereignty.

In the same context, the Farmers’ General Union said that taking part in the coming elections “is a strong message to conspirators that the Syrian people won’t surrender to foreign pressure and dictates.”

In Aleppo, Islamic and Christian scholars also believe that voting in the presidential elections is a national right and duty to lead Syria to the safe shore.

Aleppo Mufti Mahmoud Akkam affirmed that “the issue of presidential elections is a national obligation that protects the homeland from chaos and maintains the state’s institutions.” He clarified that religion in general and Islam in particular orders its followers to spare no effort to protect their homeland.

He urged all components of the Syrian society to adopt a positive stance towards the elections through effective participation and through ensuring a safe atmosphere to all to practice their right.  He also called on them to work hand in hand to reconstruct the homeland and confront those who want destruction and chaos to Syria.
