United Nations confirms coordination with Arab League to support Syria’s political process

U N Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and Pacific Affairs, Khaled Khiari confirmed that the UN special envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen continues his close engagement with the Arab League to coordinate support for a comprehensive political process in Syria.

“As Syria seeks to chart a new course after the fall of the defunct regime, Pedersen continues to engage closely with the league of Arab states and its member states to coordinate support for a comprehensive Syrian-led political process, based on the basic principles of Security Council Resolution No. 2254 of 2015,” khiari was quoted by UN News Center as saying at a security council meeting to discuss cooperation between the UN and the league of Arab states.

Khairi stressed the UN commitment to its partnership with the league of Arab states to enhance joint efforts to improve the lives of people throughout the Arab region .
