Caretaker Minister of Economy meets industrialists and traders in Lattakia Governorate

Participants in the meeting of industrialists and traders in Lattakia Governorate with the Minister of Economy in the caretaker government, Basil Abdul Aziz Abdul Hanan, reviewed the industrial and commercial reality in the governorate, and the most prominent challenges and obstacles that hinder the development process and proposals to overcome them. During the meeting, Minister Abdul Hanan stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to develop the industrial and commercial sectors, and to develop a strategic economic vision in partnership with stakeholders that contributes to establishing a common ground for the transition to an open free market economy,

He emphasized the protection of the local product and combating commercial dumping and any commercial practices that could lead to halting the wheel of local production. The Minister pointed out that the action plan includes restructuring government institutions , rehabilitating the infrastructure, and providing the requirements for improving the economic situation, especially energy, to create a suitable investment environment that attracts foreign investments. Abdul Hanan stressed the need to focus on supporting agricultural industries and promoting their exports by searching for new markets and raising the added value of products, in addition to studying regional competition and making proposals to develop industries with economic advantages.

“The meeting aims to identify the basic requirements and needs of industrialists and traders, and the facilities that can be provided to these groups; in order to stimulate the wheel of production and contribute to economic growth, improve living conditions, and achieve social stability through the job opportunities it provides.”Lattakia Governor Mohammad Othman said in a statement to SANA correspondent.

He pointed out that efforts have been focused during the past period on extending security, restoring safety, and following up on service affairs in the governorate.

The participants called for ensuring security stability and protecting industrial and commercial facilities, reducing industrial electricity costs, supporting local products and encouraging industries based on agricultural products.

They also called for providing support for joint scientific research between industry and universities, which will positively impact the quality of products.
