Al-Shibani’s speech during a press conference with AL Assistant Secretary-General

DAMASCUS, Jan.18, (ST)- Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, As’ad Al-Shibani, held a press conference with Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, who is visiting Damascus.

During the conference: Al-Shibani said: “We look forward to enhancing joint work with members of the Arab League in various fields. We also look forward to Syria’s returning to its seat in the League and attending all events to represent the voice of the free Syrian people, and we highly appreciate the firm commitment of Arab countries to the unity of Syrian lands.

“The new Syrian administration seeks by all means to ensure a suitable environment for the return of all Syrians, and to provide them with what they need to live a decent life in their country, Syria,”, the minister added.

He went on to say: “We call on our Arab brothers and members of the Arab League to contribute to reconstruction, especially in the field of energy and infrastructure, and we are ready to offer all facilities to Arab investments in a way that contributes to building the economy and improving the standard of living for the Syrian people.

Al-Shibani also affirmed that the new administration with press ahead with making efforts to maintain the security and stability of the region. “ We stand on the threshold of a new stage in which we look forward to a bright future based on peace, prosperity and joint cooperation.”

“We renew our call on the international community to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Syria, which stand as an obstacle to recovery, and we affirm that our hands are extended to everyone who seeks to build and serve this country,” the minister said.

He hopes that Syria, alongside its Arab brothers, will strengthen the effective Arab role and Arab positions after its absence for 14 years.

“We saw in the Riyadh conference great support and honorable positions by the Arab countries, and there is a great desire and happiness for Syria to return to the Arab embrace,” the minister concluded.
