Al-Sheibani: Syria and Turkey have begun a new history of relations based on fraternity, cooperation

ANKARA- Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Sheibani, during a press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Ankara, said “Syria and Turkey have begun a new history of relations based on fraternity, cooperation and support for stability and security.

Al-Sheibani affirmed that the Turkish-Syrian relations will witness political and economic development that will achieve prosperity, security and stability in Syria.

He added that “the common factors between Syria and Turkey push us to continuously strengthen and develop our relations”.

Al-Sheibani stressed that sectarian calls aim to change Syria’s identity as well as its present and past.

“We affirm that Syria is for all the Syrians not for one group of people. We also affirm the need that the Syrians keep unified against sectarian calls that seek to divide our society”, Al-Sheibani said.

“The Syrian people will not accept dividing Syria, and we are working to build a unified homeland and a new Syria that achieves the aspirations of the Syrians,” Al-Sheibani added, pointing out that work will continue to restore Syria’s active role in the region.

“Future Syria is the one that respects all its citizens. We look forward to building friendly relations with Turkey and will not allow our lands to be used to threaten neighboring countries,” Al-Sheibani clarified.

Al-Shaibani also said that the National Conference will represent all segments of the Syrian people and will comprise around 1,200 representatives.

“For the first time in Syria, strategic decisions will be issued by the people, not by a segment and for the first time, the Syrians will feel that they are entitled to speak about their future and the future of their country,” he explained.
