UN High Commissioner for Human Rights arrives in Damascus

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk arrived in Damascus today at the beginning of a visit that also includes Lebanon. During his short visit, Türk is scheduled to meet with officials from Syria and Lebanon, as well as representatives of civil society organizations, in addition to members of the diplomatic corps and UN entities. This is the first visit by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Syria, and the second to Lebanon. His first visit was in 2002.
