“Syria is experiencing a historic turning point that will have impacts not only on the Syrians but also on the peoples of the entire Middle East,” the Arab Group in the UN Security Council said in a statement yesterday.
The Group affirmed in its statement that the Arab countries never abandoned Syria in its past ordeal, and that their current support reflects their sincere intentions that will benefit the Syrian people.
The Group stressed the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Syria and it condemned Israel’s continued occupation of the Syrian Golan since 1967, and its opportunistic exploitation of the current situation to occupy more Syrian territories.
The Group stressed its full solidarity with Syria and its brotherly people at this historic stage. It reiterated its support for all the efforts aimed at rebuilding the homeland through a comprehensive political process that is led by the Syrian people and that seeks the effective participation of all Syrians in shaping a better future for their homeland and building its national institutions, with the support of the League of Arab States and the United Nations.
The Group stressed that Syria’s security is fundamental pillar of the Arab national security.
“We will continue to stand by the Syrian people until they achieve their aspirations for a stable and prosperous homeland in the near future,” the Arab Group concluded.
