Opposition Syrian Social Nationalist Party Supports Candidacy of Dr. Bashar Al-Assad for President Post

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Opposition Syrian Social Nationalist Party has announced support for the candidacy of Dr. Bashar Al-Assad for the post of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The announcement was made by Ali Haidar, the party’s Secretary during a press conference on Tuesday in Damascus.

Haidar also revealed that his party has withdrawn from the Front of Change and Liberation for differences in stances towards the presidential elections in Syria.

“The process of presidential elections in Syria is a constitutional national obligation and taking part in this process is both the right and duty of every Syrian citizen,” Haidar said.

He stressed that ‘the issue of candidacy to the post of president is an internal affair par excellence and no foreign power has the right to interfere in naming who can run in the elections and who can’t.”

Haidar asserted that “the hoped-for change can be attained through maintaining and building the state’s institutions not through destroying them.”

He affirmed his party’s complete rejection of all forms of mandate on Syria and its determination to resist the American-Israeli scheme in the region. He also stressed that any solution to the crisis in Syria will be attained by the Syrians themselves.

Haidar pointed out that “the party intends to make contacts with national opposition forces to discuss the possibility of forming a national coalition on the basis of support for all parties in order to build future Syria through a national development project that starts with finding a way out of the crisis and ends with a project to construct the hoped-for Syria hand in hand with President Bashar Al-Assad.”
