UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria: Reports about United Nations evacuating all its staff from Syria are false

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, has confirmed that recent reports about the United Nations evacuating all its staff from Syria are false.

Abdelmoula said in a statement on Saturday that “the United Nations remains steadfast in its commitment to stay and deliver life-saving assistance to the Syrian people at this critical time.

“To ensure the safety of our personnel while continuing essential operations, the United Nations is reducing its strategic presence by repositioning non-critical staff outside the country. This is a precautionary measure to protect our teams in light of the evolving circumstances,” Abdelmoula also said.

He added, “I would like to stress clearly that this is not an evacuation and our commitment to supporting the Syrian people remains firm and unwavering.”
