Iran reaffirms ongoing support for Syrian people, government

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated Iran’s ongoing support for the Syrian people and government, pointing out that developments in the region are accelerating and witnessing intensive events in which Iran should play a key role.

Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Araghchi as saying on the sidelines of his participation in the Doha Forum that the participation came in the light of developments in the region, especially in Syria, and with the aim of coordination with Turkey and Russia to hold a meeting in Astana format.

He added that he held talks with the Turkish Foreign Minister and other officials, noting that the focus in all meetings was on developments in Syria and the path that should be followed to support the Syrian people, Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Araghchi pointed out that the tripartite meeting between Iran, Iraq and Syria was held in Baghdad, which was a new initiative, and the need to support the Syrian government and people, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and to prevent the country from falling into the hands of terrorist groups was emphasized, indicating that there are common concerns among the countries of the region regarding developments in Syria.
