Iraqi President reaffirms need to preserve Syria’s unity and sovereignty

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid discussed with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi the political and security developments in the regional arena, especially the recent security developments in Syria and their repercussions on the region.

The Iraqi presidency said in a statement that Rashid pointed out the need to intensify efforts and joint coordination to achieve security and stability in the region, and to preserve the unity and sovereignty of Syria and the safety of its people.

He stressed the importance of continuing consultation and coordination in a way that preserves peace at the regional and international levels, and developing a well-thought-out plan to prevent the repercussions of the accelerating events in the region.

Rashid affirmed Iraq’s supportive stance to consolidate stability in the region and its efforts to prevent the expansion of the circle of conflict.

He explained that the developments in Syria and their repercussions on the region as a whole are of great interest, indicating Iraq’s steadfast role in strengthening international peace and security.

For his part, Araghchi praised Iraq’s efforts to end conflicts and calm the situation, in a way that serves the peoples of the region and their security, political and economic stability.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani affirmed during his meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Baghdad Iraq’s official and firm position on supporting Syria’s unity, security and stability.

Al-Sudani said that “what is happening in Syria is not separated from the events that Gaza and Lebanon have witnessed and that have destabilized the region and threatened its security.
