Al-Sudani to Erdogan: Iraq will not stand still in the face of the grave repercussions unfolding in Syria

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammed Shia’ Al-Sudani on Tuesday made a phone conversation with President of the Turkish regime Recep Tayyip Erdogan focusing on the latest security and field developments in Syria and the region.

The Iraqi News Agency reported citing the PM’s Media Office that Al-Sudani informed Erdogan that “Iraq will not stand still in the face of the grave repercussions unfolding in Syria, particularly acts of ethnic cleansing targeting various components there”.

“Iraq has previously suffered from terrorism and the outcomes of extremist groups taking control of areas in Syria, and it will not allow such a scenario to be repeated,” emphasized Al-Sudani, reaffirming the importance of respecting Syria’s unity and sovereignty and stressing “Iraq’s commitment to exerting all efforts to maintain its security and that of Syria.”

Al-Sudani underscored that “Islamic srates do not need further internal divisions,” highlighting that “the events in Syria serve the interests of the Zionist entity, which has deliberately targeted Syrian army sites, paving the way for terrorist groups to seize more territory.”

For his part, Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji affirmed his country’s rejection of the terrorist attacks on Syria.

Al-Sumaria News quoted al-Araji’s office as saying in a statement: “Al-Araji discussed with the US Ambassador to Baghdad Alina Romanowski the latest developments in the region, especially the terrorist attacks taking place in neighboring Syria,” stressing Iraq’s rejection of what is happening in Syria due to these terrorist groups.

Yesterday, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stressed his country’s keenness on Syria’s stability and security.
