Cairo(ST)-The Arab League stressed the necessity of respecting the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, noting that it is following with great concern the field developments there.

Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, expressed the concern of the Secretary-General of the League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, regarding the successive developments that the country has been witnessing for several days and their effects on civilians, which open up many possibilities, including the occurrence of chaos that terrorist groups exploit to resume their activities.

The official spokesman stressed the commitment of the General Secretariat of the League to all elements of the political position on the situation in Syria as stated in the decisions of the League Council at its various levels.
