Economy Minister: Syria’s Interest Comes First

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Khider Orfali, said the first task of the Boards of Business is to attract foreign investment, finance joint ventures, stimulate business and economic work and the achievement of these goals is a big challenge for everyone to overcome.

Dr. Orfali presided over the first meeting of the Board of Directors of Business, which included heads of Federations of Chambers of Industry, Commerce, Tourism, Agriculture and Exporters and in the presence of heads of newly created councils including Armenia, Iran, China, Russia and Belarus. The minister called for putting the personal interests that prevailed in the work of some of the previous councils aside to make a deal here or there, and Syria’s interest comes first.

The Minister of Economy sees that the responsibility of businessmen in these boards is large in terms of providing the necessary facilities for the care of the activities of business and economic activities, pointing out that continuous talk now about the reconstruction does not mean the stone, but the rebuilding of human being and this can not be done without exerting the efforts by everyone to work in one direction and to achieve one goal.

For his part, President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Ghassan Qalla’ asserted that the President of the Business Council should be an ambassador of the Syrian side and present a monthly report of what he accomplished at the level of economic and trade cooperation with the other side and submit these reports to the Board of Directors of Business Councils in order to avoid the failure that has prevailed in the experience of previous councils, in this phase, we need per gram for the benefit of the interest of Syria.

For his part, the president of the Federation of Chambers of Industry Eng. Faress al –Shehabi called for integration work and building bridges of cooperation between all parties involved to ensure the success of the goals that these boards were created for.
