Chinese President stresses need for ceasefire in Gaza

Beijing, (ST)-Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that the top priority currently to control the situation in the Middle East is to implement the Security Council resolutions and cease fire in Gaza Strip, noting that his country will continue to work with the international community to help in this regard.

Novosti Agency quoted Xi as saying today in a message to the UN meeting on the occasion of the International Day of Peace: “The top priority is the full and effective implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, an early ceasefire and war, and detente in the region,” noting that the fundamental solution to the Palestinian issue is to promote a political settlement, establish an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty, and achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting settlement at an early date.

Xi stressed that Beijing strongly supports making Palestine a full member of the United Nations, as well as holding a larger, more reliable, and more effective international peace conference to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, explaining that his country will continue to work with the international community to stop hostilities and killings, support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and organize humanitarian aid work for the people of Gaza.
