Lebanon instructs its UN mission to submit a complaint to the Security Council regarding the deliberate Israeli targeting of the army
Beirut, (ST)-The Lebanese Foreign Ministry announced that it has instructed the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations to submit a new complaint to the UN Security Council in response to the continued and deliberate targeting of the Lebanese army by the Israeli entity since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon on October 8, 2023, which has escalated significantly during the past weeks.
The complaint refuted the serious attacks on the Lebanese army, its centers and vehicles that were recorded in the period from November 17 to 24, 2024 in the villages of Mari, Sarafand, Burj al-Muluk-Qalaa road, and al-Ameriya in southern Lebanon, which led to the killing of 10 army personnel and the wounding of 35 others, including critical cases.
According to a statement by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry: “In its complaint, Lebanon called on the member states of the Security Council to condemn the repeated Israeli attacks on the army, and consider them a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter and international resolutions.”
Lebanon stressed that targeting the army seriously undermines the current international efforts to reach a ceasefire, and weakens the ongoing mediation efforts aimed at achieving stability in the region. It is also a clear message from “Israel” rejecting any initiatives for a solution, and its insistence on military escalation instead of diplomacy.
