Cooperation with Indian Apollo to Develop Hama Smelting Company

DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Industry Minister Kamal Eddin Tomah and the main director for operations in the Indian Apollo Company recently discussed here the completion of the implementation of the project as soon as possible and putting it in investment. The Indian Apollo Company carries out the development of Hama smelting factory of Iron and Steel Company.

The minister underlined the need to find solutions to the problems of delay in the implementation of the project after the departure of the company’s experts to India because of the current circumstances and to accelerate its implementation because it is a strategic project.

Mr. Tomah pointed out that the work in the project was going on at a good pace before the experts’ departure, whereas 95 percent of the civil works and about 50 percent of the work of installation of the equipment that were supplied in full to the company were achieved, indicating that the technicians have estimated the needs of the completion of the project by not more than a hundred days of work to put it into service.

The Minister of Industry affirmed the government’s interest and its insistence on the implementation of the project at full speed, expressing readiness to provide all the facilities to finish the work on the project and in accordance with the contracts between Hama Smelting Factory and Indian Apollo, and the Ministry of Industry is open to any solution in this regard.

Head of the delegation expressed Apollo’s keenness to continue the work on the smelting project and problems caused by the delay in implementation of the project and discussing the technical and commercial points, noting that his company “has no interest in prolonging the implementation of the project.”

The discussion included a number of technical and financial points that resulted from the cessation of the implementation of the project during this period, and the creation of technical and commercial formulas that guarantee the rights of the parties.

The minister asked the Indian company to provide a detailed memorandum including final proposals to ensure that guarantee the implementation of the project to be presented to the government.
