Cairo, (ST) – The Arab League condemned the crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing committed by the Israeli occupation entity against the Palestinian people, and the crimes of aggression on Syrian and Lebanese lands and attempts to expand them in the region, including Iraq, warning that this comprehensive Israeli escalation portends the outbreak of a wide regional war that threatens security and stability in the region.
During a meeting of its Council at the level of permanent representatives in its extraordinary session on “mobilizing international support to confront Israeli measures”, the League’s countries called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and curb the aggressive Israeli policies. They called on the General Assembly to begin reviewing the freeze on “Israel’s” participation in United Nations meetings in accordance with the provisions of the Charter.
The following is the text of the resolution issued by the meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates in its extraordinary session regarding “mobilizing international support to confront Israeli measures in an attempt to expand its aggressive and escalatory practices in the region:
1- Condemning the attempt of “Israel” (the occupying power) to expand its aggressive practices in the region, including Iraq.
2- Condemning the crimes of aggression, genocide and ethnic cleansing that “Israel” (the occupying power) continues to commit against the Palestinian people and the crimes of aggression on the territories of the Lebanese Republic and the Syrian Arab Republic.
3- Warning of the danger of the comprehensive Israeli escalation that threatens to erupt into a wide regional war that threatens security and stability in the region, and renewing the call for the international community, especially the Security Council, to assume its legal and moral responsibilities towards the escalation and work to curb the Israeli aggressive policies in a manner consistent with international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
4- Condemning the practices of the Israeli occupation government towards the United Nations, this has reached a stage that the organization has not faced since its establishment.
5- Condemning the ongoing Israeli attacks targeting residential neighborhoods, buildings and civilian facilities in the Syrian Arab Republic, and rejecting the allegations and lies promoted by the Israeli occupation to justify these attacks and expand the circle of aggression against the countries of the region in a way that threatens regional and international peace and security.
6- Condemning the Israeli occupation authorities’ digging of trenches and raising earthen berms along the ceasefire line, which were documented by UNDOF reports, and warning of the seriousness of these actions that violate Security Council Resolutions No. 24
7- Condemning the United States of America’s use of the veto for the fourth time against the issuance of a resolution submitted to the Security Council for an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza Strip on November 20, 2024, and calling on it to review its biased positions towards the Israeli occupation, which would obstruct the Security Council’s responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and prevent the cessation of the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
8- Requesting the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council, each according to his mandate, to carry out their international mandate to maintain international peace and security and take all measures authorized by the Security Council under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, to stop the Israeli aggression in Gaza Strip, the West Bank and the Lebanese Republic and the attacks on the Syrian Arab Republic.
9- Welcome the decision of the International Criminal Court issued on 11-21-2024, which includes arrest warrants for the Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation government and the former Minister of the Occupation Army, and calling on all States Parties to the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Court to commit to cooperating with the International Criminal Court in this regard and not to politicize the decisions of the Court.
10- Welcome the announcement by the Government of the Republic of Iraq that its armed forces and all security services will prevent and prosecute any military activity outside the framework of state control.
11- Requesting the non-permanent Arab member of the United Nations Security Council, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, in coordination with the Republic of Iraq, to follow up on the complaint submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the Security Council against “Israel”.
12- Assigning the missions of the League of Arab States and requesting the Councils of Arab Ambassadors in friendly countries to mobilize international support to confront the aggressive measures of “Israel” (the occupying power).
13- Requesting the Council of Arab Ambassadors in New York, in coordination with the mission of the League of Arab States in New York and the permanent representative of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria (the non-permanent Arab member of the Security Council), to continue the appreciated efforts to work on holding an emergency session of the Security Council and demanding the issuance of a resolution under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter obligating “Israel” (the occupying power) to immediately cease aggressive practices and cease attempts at escalation in the region.
14- Requesting the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States to send a letter to the President of the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, including the position of the League of Arab States in support of the Republic of Iraq and rejecting the allegations contained in the letter of the Foreign Minister of the Israeli occupation government. Calling for urgent measures to stop the ongoing Israeli escalation in the region, and requesting them to circulate the letter to the member states of the United Nations.
15- Requesting the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States to follow up on the implementation of this resolution and submit a report to the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in its next session.
