Minister Sabbagh meets Pedersen

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh met with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria Geir Pedersen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates building.

During the meeting, the escalating situation in the region resulting from the Israeli aggression on Syria and Lebanon was discussed, which forced hundreds of thousands of Syrians and Lebanese to flee into Syria to escape the hell of the Israeli killing machine.

In this regard, Minister Sabbagh presented the facilities provided by the Syrian government to respond to this emergency humanitarian situation, despite the difficult circumstances that Syria is going through. These circumstances have been exacerbated by the unilateral coercive, illegal and inhumane measures imposed by the United States of America and the European Union on the Syrian people.

Minister Sabbagh stressed the need for the United Nations to assume its responsibilities to stop the violations and crimes of the Israeli entity and its repeated attacks on Syrian territory. He also stressed the importance of supporting the Syrian government’s efforts in the humanitarian response, including supporting the implementation of early recovery projects.

For his part, Pedersen welcomed the efforts made by the Syrian government and the facilities provided to those arriving from Lebanon, and presented the contacts he is making in order to implement his mandate. He stressed respect for Syria’s sovereignty and the unity and integrity of its territories.
