Venezuela Rejects U.S. Recognition of Edmundo González as President-Elect

The Venezuelan government has expressed its strong rejection of the U.S. recognition of Edmundo González as the country’s president-elect.

In a message published on social media, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil condemned U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s post, labeling him “an open enemy of Venezuela.”

In his statement, he referenced a popular saying: “the only place that does not turn back is ridicule,” alluding to what he perceives as a repetition of errors by the U.S. administration in supporting what he calls “Guaidó 2.0,” backed by “fascists and terrorists” in their attempts to destabilize Venezuelan politics.

The minister urged Blinken to reflect on his failures in the region, suggesting that he should focus on writing his memoirs about how the Bolivarian Revolution has managed to resist and emerge victorious from attempts at foreign intervention.

“The literary plan of a Secretary of State who has sunk, along with his puppets, never fails to reverse Venezuelan democracy,” Gil added.

It should be noted that Nicolás Maduro, the head of state of Venezuela and candidate of the Great Patriotic Pole, was re-elected in the presidential elections held in July with 51.20 percent of the vote.

This statement comes amid ongoing diplomatic tensions between Venezuela and the United States, where the Venezuelan government continues to defend its sovereignty and the outcome of recent elections.
