Al-Dahhak: The continuous US-backed Israeli crimes pose serious threat to regional and international peace and security

New York (ST) – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, warned that the occupation entity’s continuation in igniting wars in the region would cause chaos and threaten regional and international peace and security.

He called on the Security Council to stop the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine, the Israeli bombing and aggression on Lebanon, and the barbaric attacks on Syria.

Al-Dahhak stated Tuesday night during a Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East: ” Despite the Israeli occupation, its systematic acts of aggression, and its brutal crimes over many decades, the Palestinian cause has enjoyed strong and broad support from all countries that believe in international law, the principles of justice, and the rights of peoples”.

“The more the Israeli occupation entity takes additional aggressive steps in an attempt to liquidate this cause, erase history, and change geography, the more the number of those in solidarity and support for the Palestinian people will increase throughout the world”, he added.

Al-Dahhak stressed that the persistence of the occupation entity in practicing killing, destroying of infrastructure, forcible displacement, deliberately targeting humanitarian personnel, including 237 UNRWA employees and journalists, and its attempt to harm the United Nations and its Secretary-General and the ban on the work of UNRWA, are all serious violations of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter that reflect a criminal exclusionary approach.

“The crimes of the occupation today are part of the crimes of the terrorist gangs of Haganah, Stern and Irgun, and the assassination of the UN crews is nothing but an extension of the assassination of the first international mediator appointed by the United Nations, the Swedish Count Folke Bernadotte, whose killer later assumed the position of the so-called Prime Minister of the occupying entity”, Al-Dahhak indicated.

“Israel, with its aggression and arrogance, has ignited the fires of war in Gaza Strip, and expanded its scope until the entire region is on the brink of a comprehensive war. Therefore, the Security Council’s fulfillment of its responsibilities to save lives by stopping the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine, the bombing and ground invasion of Lebanon, and ending the repeated barbaric attacks on Syria is the priority today. It is unacceptable for the Council to remain hostage to the political decision of one country that has decided to give priority to the interests of the Israeli occupation and prolong its duration at the expense of the security and safety of the region and the blood of its people.”

Al-Dahhak stressed that the joint Arab-Islamic Summit hosted by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia a few days ago affirmed its strong condemnation of the Israeli aggression on Syria, calling on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities and take the necessary and decisive measures to stop the crimes of the occupation and implement the relevant Council resolutions to end the Israeli occupation of Arab lands, including the occupied Syrian Arab Golan.

“Syria warns that Israel’s continued ignition of wars in our region will spread chaos, destabilize security and stability, and threaten regional and international peace and security”, Al-Dahhak said. He pointed out that Syria calls on the Security Council to prevent this and immediately implement the relevant resolutions, most notably resolutions 242, 338 and 497, to ensure the end of the Israeli occupation of Arab territories in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon, and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with full UN membership.

Syria reiterates its categorical rejection of the unilateral measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities to undermine UNRWA and ban its work inside the Palestinian territories, which have reached the point of describing it as a terrorist organization, which is an extremely dangerous and unprecedented behavior. It stresses the need to enable the agency to fulfill its mandate in occupied Palestine and host countries, including Syria, and to provide the necessary funding for this, Al-Dahhak asserted.

He noted that Syria condemns the deliberate Israeli attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and stresses the need to maintain the security and safety of the force members, as well as the security and safety of the UNDOF and UNTSO missions, and not to prejudice their mandates.
